How to use previous year papers effectively
Solve the most recent 3–5 years of papers in timed conditions — exactly as the real exam. Note the time you spend per section so you can plan a realistic exam-day strategy.
After each paper, classify your mistakes by topic. Use this list to drive your next two weeks of focused study. Solving more papers without this analysis step gives diminishing returns.
Exam pattern analysis with PYQs
Spread 5–7 papers on a desk and tally the number of questions per topic. The repeating high-frequency topics are your priority chapters. Low-frequency topics still matter, but should be covered only after the high-yield areas.
Difficulty level and time per question
PYQs reveal how the conducting body distributes easy, medium and hard questions across sections. Use this to fix your attempt strategy — for example, in SSC CGL Tier-1 most aspirants target 80% accuracy on easy and medium questions before risking the hard ones.
Revision planning around PYQs
In the last 30 days before the exam, switch from new topics to revision. Re-solve every PYQ you got wrong in earlier attempts, plus the most recent 3 papers under full exam conditions. This single habit lifts scores for almost every serious candidate.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many years of PYQs should I solve?
For most government exams, the most recent 5–8 years of question papers are enough. Older papers are useful when the syllabus has not changed.
Should I solve PYQs topic-wise or full paper?
Start topic-wise as you finish each chapter, then switch to full-length papers in the last 8–10 weeks for timing and stamina practice.
Are the answer keys reliable?
We use official answer keys wherever available. For older papers, expert-verified keys are provided. Always cross-check disputed questions against the official key.
Are PYQs the same as model or sample papers?
No. PYQs are actual past exam papers. Sample papers are model papers built on the same pattern. Both are useful — start with PYQs.
Will the same questions repeat in my exam?
Exact repetition is rare, but topics, question types and difficulty levels repeat consistently — that is the real value of PYQs.
