Role & Responsibilities

The IPR Chair at the National Institute of Ayurveda will play a pivotal role in shaping the institution's intellectual property landscape and fostering a culture of innovation. Key responsibilities include:

• Developing and implementing comprehensive Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) policies and strategies for NIA, aligning with national and international standards.
• Providing expert guidance and mentorship to faculty, researchers, and students on various aspects of IPR, including patenting, copyright, trademarks, and geographical indications, particularly in the context of Ayurvedic knowledge and products.
• Conducting and facilitating research in IPR, with a special focus on traditional knowledge, biodiversity, and the protection of Ayurvedic innovations.
• Organizing workshops, seminars, and training programs to enhance IPR awareness and capacity building within the institute and among stakeholders.
• Advising the institute on legal and ethical considerations related to IPR, ensuring compliance and safeguarding NIA's intellectual assets.
• Collaborating with national and international IPR bodies, government agencies, and industry partners to promote and protect Ayurvedic intellectual property.
• Contributing to policy discussions and advocacy efforts concerning IPR in traditional medicine at national and international forums.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates aspiring for the prestigious IPR Chair position at NIA must meet one of the following comprehensive eligibility criteria:

• Academic Professionals: Must have served as, or meet the eligibility criteria for serving as, a Professor or an Associate Professor as prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), AND possess substantial teaching and research experience specifically in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
• IP Attorneys: An Intellectual Property (IP) attorney who has actively practiced IPR law for a minimum duration of ten (10) years.
• Recognized IPR Professionals: Any other professional who has gained significant recognition and made substantial contributions in the field of IPR, with no less than ten (10) years of experience in the said field.
• Retired IP Office Officials: A retired official from the Intellectual Property Office under the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks (CGPDTM), holding a doctorate degree, with a minimum of five (5) years of experience working at Level 12 or above. This includes positions such as Controller of Patent & Design, Registrar of Trademark & Geographical Indications, or Registrar of Copyrights.

Age Limit: The maximum age for applicants is 70 years as of the application deadline.

Experience: As specified above, ranging from 5 to 10+ years depending on the professional background.

Selection Process
