Agniveer 2026 – Complete Agnipath Scheme Guide & Resources

    Last updated: 7 March 2026

The Agniveer recruitment scheme (Agnipath) is India's transformational defence recruitment programme launched to induct young personnel into the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force for a four-year engagement period. The scheme aims to create a younger, fitter, and more tech-savvy military force while providing recruits with valuable skills, discipline, and financial security for their post-service careers.

Agniveer 2026 recruitment is expected across all three services with large-scale intakes. The scheme has replaced the earlier recruitment methods for soldiers, sailors, and airmen, creating a unified entry point for youth aspiring to serve in India's armed forces. After four years of service, up to 25% of Agniveers may be retained for regular service based on performance, while the remaining receive a substantial Seva Nidhi package and skill certifications.

The Agniveer selection process involves a Computer-Based Examination (CBE) followed by physical fitness tests, medical examination, and document verification. The CBE tests General Knowledge, General Science, Mathematics, and Computer Fundamentals. Physical tests include a 1.6 km run within specified time, pull-ups, sit-ups, and other endurance exercises. The standards vary slightly between Army, Navy, and Air Force intakes.

Agniveer salary during the four-year engagement is structured with annual increments. First-year monthly package is ₹30,000 (₹21,000 in-hand + ₹9,000 Agniveer Corpus Fund contribution). By the fourth year, the monthly package increases to ₹40,000 (₹28,000 in-hand + ₹12,000 corpus). The Seva Nidhi (exit package) after four years is approximately ₹11.71 lakh, tax-free, plus government's matching contribution of ₹11.71 lakh, totalling approximately ₹23.42 lakh.

Eligibility for Agniveer requires candidates to be between 17.5 and 23 years of age. Educational qualification varies: 10th pass for General Duty, 12th pass (Science) for Technical trades, and 12th pass for Clerk/Store Keeper. Physical standards include minimum height of 160 cm for males and 152 cm for females, with region-specific relaxations.

The Agniveer scheme offers several advantages beyond the service period. Agniveers receive recognised skill certifications, educational qualifications through service credits, and priority in government job applications after their engagement. The discipline, physical fitness, and leadership skills acquired during service provide a strong foundation for subsequent careers in police, paramilitary, or corporate security sectors.
