SSC GD Constable Age Limit 2026 — Requirements & Category-Wise

The SSC GD Constable Age Limit is one of the most important eligibility criteria for this recruitment. Unlike SSC CGL or CHSL which have different age limits for different posts, SSC GD has a uniform age limit of 18–23 years for all forces, with standard category-wise relaxation. SSC GD 2026 Age Limit

Age is calculated as on 1st January 2026:

• Minimum Age: 18 years (born on or before 01-01-2008)
• Maximum Age (General): 23 years (born on or after 02-01-2003)

This applies uniformly to all CAPFs (BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB), NIA, SSF, and Assam Rifles.

Category-Wise Age Relaxation

• SC/ST: 5 years (effective upper limit: 28 years)
• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years (effective upper limit: 26 years)
• Ex-Servicemen: 3 years after deduction of military service rendered
• J&K Domicile (1980–1989): 5 years

Note: Unlike SSC CGL/CHSL, there is no PwBD category reservation for SSC GD as these are combat/field posts requiring physical fitness.

Why SSC GD Has a Lower Age Limit

SSC GD recruits for paramilitary and border security forces where physical fitness and endurance are critical. The 18–23 age bracket ensures candidates are at peak physical fitness for the demanding PET (5 km race, long jump, high jump) and the rigorous training that follows recruitment. Candidates older than 23 (General) are unlikely to complete the intense 9–12 month basic training programme.

How to Calculate Your Eligibility

1. Note your date of birth from your 10th class certificate
2. Calculate your age on 1 January 2026
3. Add applicable category relaxation to the upper limit of 23
4. Verify you are at least 18 years old on the cutoff date

For example, a General category male born on 15 March 2003 would be 22 years 9 months on 1 January 2026 — eligible. But if born on 15 March 2002 (23 years 9 months), they would be over-age.
