Use this page as your bookmarked entry point: whenever RPF releases a fresh notification on rrbapply.gov.in and rpf.indianrailways.gov.in, the live updates section below this article reflects the change within 24 hours, while the structural information about RPF (eligibility, posts, selection process, pay, documents, application steps) stays current here so you do not have to re-read the same basics every cycle.
About Railway Protection Force
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is an armed force of the Union of India raised under the RPF Act, 1957, for the protection and security of railway property, passenger area and passengers. RPF recruitment is conducted by the Ministry of Railways through RRBs/RRCs in cycles, and notifications are published on the centralised portal rrbapply.gov.in along with the official rpf.indianrailways.gov.in website.
RPF recruitment is competitive but transparent: notifications, vacancy break-ups, syllabi and result sheets are all published on the official website, and every step of the selection process is documented in the recruitment notice. This evergreen page mirrors the structure of an RPF official notification so that you can cross-reference eligibility, fees, exam pattern and timelines before you begin any application.
Current RPF recruitment status
Confirmed live RPF vacancies appear in the listing section. If the list is empty, no fresh RPF notification is open at the moment — we do not list rumoured or unverified openings. As soon as RPF publishes a new advertisement on rrbapply.gov.in and rpf.indianrailways.gov.in, this page is updated and email / Telegram alert subscribers are notified within hours. Bookmark this URL and check the live updates module weekly during peak recruitment cycles.
Common posts recruited by RPF
RPF recruits across multiple cadres. The list below summarises the most frequently released posts; the exact basket of posts in any given notification depends on indents from the user departments or zones, and on the manpower plan approved for the relevant financial year.
- RPF Constable (Executive) (Level 3) — Open to male and female candidates, including separate categories for Mahila Constables.
- RPF Sub-Inspector (SI) (Level 6) — Direct entry SI cadre across zones.
Eligibility framework
Eligibility for RPF recruitment depends on the specific post. As a general rule, candidates must be Indian citizens (or fall under the permitted categories in the recruitment notice), must hold the educational qualification prescribed for the post on the cut-off date specified in the notification, and must satisfy the physical / medical standards where applicable.
Educational qualifications range from a Class 10 pass with ITI for trade-specific Level-1 posts, to a Class 12 pass for some clerical / undergraduate RPF cadres, to a recognised graduate degree for officer cadres. Always read the eligibility paragraph in the official notification verbatim — the recognising authority of the certifying body (UGC, AICTE, NCVT, etc.) is non-negotiable.
Age limit guidance
The standard age band for RPF recruitment is 18 to 25 years for Constable and 20 to 28 years for Sub-Inspector (with standard relaxations of 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST and additional ones for Ex-Servicemen and PwBD). Age relaxations apply as per Government of India rules: 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer), 5 years for SC/ST, 10 years for PwBD (with cumulative relaxations for SC/ST/OBC PwBD candidates), and additional relaxations for Ex-Servicemen, departmental candidates and J&K domicile candidates under the applicable orders. The exact cut-off date for age calculation is always specified in the recruitment advertisement.
Selection process
RPF follows a multi-stage selection process designed to test aptitude, subject knowledge and physical / medical fitness wherever relevant. The standard stages are:
- Computer-Based Test (CBT)
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Measurement Test (PMT)
- Document Verification
- Medical Examination
Each stage is qualifying for the next. Marks from screening stages may not always be carried forward to the final merit list — check the marks normalisation and weightage clauses inside the relevant notification carefully.
