About the Organisation

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is a premier law enforcement and intelligence agency operating under the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs. Established under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the NCB is mandated to combat drug trafficking and the abuse of narcotic substances across India. It works in close collaboration with state police, customs, CBI, and international agencies such as INTERPOL and the UNODC.

Role & Responsibilities

The Public Prosecutor (PP) at the Narcotics Control Bureau is a key legal functionary responsible for representing the Bureau in courts of law. The selected candidates will be posted at NCB Headquarters, New Delhi, or at any of the Regional/Zonal Offices across India. Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting prosecution in criminal cases filed under the NDPS Act and related legislation before various courts.
• Providing legal opinions and advice to NCB officers on matters related to drug law enforcement and prosecution strategy.
• Drafting legal documents, complaints, and submissions on behalf of the Bureau.
• Liaising with investigating officers to ensure proper collection and presentation of evidence in court.
• Representing NCB in bail hearings, trials, appeals, and other legal proceedings.
• Keeping abreast of amendments in drug laws, criminal procedure, and relevant judicial precedents.
• Assisting in the preparation of case files and coordinating with state prosecutors where required.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements to application window closed for the Public Prosecutor post at NCB:

• Educational Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized University.
• Experience: Minimum 7 years of practice as an Advocate in conducting criminal cases.
• Desirable: At least 3 years of experience as an Advocate specifically in conducting cases under the NDPS Act.
• For Deputation Candidates: Officers must be holding analogous posts on a regular basis, OR must have completed 2 years of regular service in Level-9 of the Pay Matrix, OR must have completed 4 years of regular service in Level-8 of the Pay Matrix.
• Age Limit: Maximum age of 56 years at the time of application (as applicable for deputation/short-term contract appointments).
• Candidates must be currently serving in Central Government, State Government, or other eligible organizations to apply on deputation basis.

Selection Process

The selection for the Public Prosecutor post at the Narcotics Control Bureau will be carried out through the standard deputation/short-term contract process as prescribed by the Government of India. The process typically involves:

• Scrutiny of Applications: All received applications will be screened for eligibility as per the prescribed criteria.
• Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) / Selection Committee Review: A duly constituted committee will evaluate the service records, ACRs/APARs, and overall suitability of shortlisted candidates.

Salary & Benefits

The selected Public Prosecutors will be entitled to the following pay and allowances as per Government of India norms:

• Pay Scale (7th CPC): Level-10 in the Pay Matrix – Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month.
• Pre-revised Pay Scale: PB-3 (Rs. 15,600 – 39,100) + Grade Pay of Rs. 5,400.
• In addition to basic pay, candidates will be entitled to Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), and other admissible allowances as per Central Government rules.
• Deputation candidates will also be eligible for deputation (duty) allowance as per applicable Government of India orders.
• Other service benefits include medical facilities, leave entitlements, and pension benefits as applicable to Central Government employees.
