About the Organisation

Role & Responsibilities

The Director will serve as the chief executive and academic officer of the G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment. Key responsibilities include:

• Providing visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Institute's research, development, and outreach activities.
• Overseeing the formulation and implementation of research programs aligned with national environmental priorities and the specific challenges of the Himalayan region.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the Director position must meet the following criteria:

• Age Limit: The maximum age for applicants is 56 years as of the closing date for receipt of applications.
• Qualification & Experience: This position is open to serving officers on a deputation basis. Candidates must be officers of the Central Government, State Governments, Union Territories, Autonomous Bodies, Public Sector Undertakings, or Universities. They should hold analogous posts on a regular basis in the parent cadre/department OR possess a minimum of 10-15 years of relevant experience in a senior administrative or scientific capacity, preferably in environmental science, forestry, climate change, or related fields, with a proven track record of leadership and research management. A strong academic background, preferably with a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, would be highly desirable.
• Job Type: This position is to be filled purely on a deputation basis.

Selection Process

• Allowances: In addition to the basic pay, the Director will be entitled to various allowances as admissible to Central Government employees, including Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) (if government accommodation is not provided), Transport Allowance (TA), and other benefits as per rules.
